Dr. Umar

Academic Lead

Dr. Umar graduated with Honours in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Liverpool. Following the successful completion of the Foundation Programme (FY1 and FY2), he undertook specialty training in General Practice (Family Medicine) and achieved Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP).

With over 15 years of clinical experience, including a decade as a Consultant General Practitioner within the NHS, Dr. Umar brings invaluable first-hand insights into UK clinical practice. His dual expertise in both patient care and medical education strengthens our Academy’s academic foundation.

As a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Examiner at the University of Manchester, Dr. Umar spent almost 10 years preparing medical students for OSCEs, clinical examinations, and successful careers in the NHS. His other contributions in medical education include developing new examination frameworks and questions, as well as mentoring Foundation Programme doctors and GP trainees as an approved clinical and educational supervisor.

Dr. Umar’s commitment to PLAB 1 preparation and PLAB 2 academy excellence is reflected in his leadership of our online and face-to-face medical courses for PLAB. Through regular structured online PLAB classes, he imparts real-world NHS knowledge and exam-oriented strategies, equipping international medical graduates to succeed.

In addition to his educational contributions, Dr. Umar has held senior leadership roles in clinical governance and medical politics, representing physicians at both regional and national levels across the UK. His diverse background and unwavering dedication bring unparalleled professional and academic leadership to our PLAB Academy.
